Physical Description:22 leaves ; 29 cm + 2 proof copies (each p. 17-24 ; 29 cm)
General note:Cuttings from an unknown printed edition of The Canterbury Tales (deduced from the printed numbering of the lines of verse) have been pasted on to 11 of the 22 leaves. The top of the verso of the first leaf is inscribed "MS. Dd.4.24." From this it would seem that this was W.A. Wright's first step in preparing the printed versions of this manuscript which he was to use as a common ground for comparison to other Chaucer MS. One of the proof copies accompanying the bound leaves has "Revise W.A.W" at the top of p. 17 and has corrections etc.; the other appears to be the copy after correction and matches the printed version of these pages used in the comparative studies at Adv.b.18.7(1)-(23)
The earlier proof copy is in the same format and the second one has the same text as that printed by John Childs and Son of Bungay in 1867.
Language note:Text in Middle English.
Ownership and custodial history note:
This copy formerly belonged to William Aldis Wright and has extensive annotations. It seems to be the preparation for a printed edition of "The clerk's tale" based on the Cambridge University Library Manuscript Dd.4.24.
