Editorship has been attributed to Eliza Haywood, but according to Whicher this is a mistake caused by confusion with Mrs Haywood's essays, 'The tea-table: or A conversation between some polite persons of both sexes, at a lady's visiting day', published in two parts in 1725. (Rothschild library catalogue) No. 13, for 3 April 1724, was the 'Essay on Walpole' subsequently reprinted as an appendix to the 'Compleat set of St. James's journals', issued in 1732 (see Rothschild 1762) Title from caption. Below title on early issues: "To be continued every Monday and Friday." Imprint from colophon. Year of publication from date of issue. Wood-cut appears at head of title on some issues. Text begins with factotum initial. |
